How to Create a Strategic Map?

A strategic map is a tool that can be used by social impact businesses to plan and track their progress towards achieving their goals. The process of creating a strategic map involves seven steps: defining the organization's vision and mission, conducting a SWOT analysis, identifying strategic objectives, developing strategies, creating a timeline for implementation, assigning responsibility for each strategy, and measuring progress.

1. Define the Organization's Vision and Mission. The first step in creating a strategic map is to define the organization's vision and mission. This will provide a framework for all of the subsequent steps in the process.

2. Conduct a SWOT Analysis. The second step is to conduct a SWOT analysis. This will help to identify the organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

3. Identify the Organization's Strategic Objectives. The third step is to identify the organization's strategic objectives. These should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

4. Develop Strategies to Achieve the Objectives. The fourth step is to develop strategies to achieve the objectives. This will involve brainstorming various potential approaches and selecting the most viable ones.

5. Create a Timeline for Implementation. The fifth step is to create a timeline for implementation. This will ensure that all of the strategies are given a specific timeframe in which they need to be completed.

6. Assign Responsibility for each Strategy. The sixth step is to assign responsibility for each strategy. This will ensure that each strategy has a specific individual or team responsible for its implementation.

7. Measure Progress and Revise as Needed. The seventh and final step is to measure progress and revise as needed. This will allow the organization to track its progress and make adjustments to the strategic plan as necessary.

Creating a strategic map is a critical tool for social impact businesses. By following the seven steps outlined above, organizations can develop a road map for achieving their goals. By taking the time to thoughtfully define their vision and mission, conduct a SWOT analysis, identify strategic objectives, develop strategies, create a timeline for implementation, assign responsibility for each strategy, and measure progress, organizations can increase their chances of achieving success.
